Annual Christmas
Recital
Come join us at the ULM Emy-Lou Beidenharn Recital Hall on the second Sunday of December to enjoy a selection of beautiful music from the students of the academy.
LFMC
Louisiana Federation of Music Clubs is a nationally recognized music association that promotes the growth of musicians of all ages and levels. Students must learn and memorize two pieces to be performed where a judge will critique and grade them. There are several categories including vocal, piano solo, piano hymn, piano duet, piano improvisation and theory just to name a few. This event encourages students to reach a goal and helps build their confidence. It is held at the ULM Music building on the last Saturday of February.
Annual Composition
Competition
Every May students have the opportunity to make their own music. We work on their music for approximately one month in our weekly lessons as well as their personal practice time. We discuss the basics of theory and how to apply it- rhythms, chord progressions and their typical functions, color or jazz chords, key changes and more. It is a joy to watch students use this knowledge and understand it better. On Composition Saturday students finalize their music and decorate it. We also play music games, learn about composers, and have snacks. It is a great chance for students to hang out with fellow musicians their own age. Each student will be placed in one of the three levels- preparatory, elementary, or intermediate, and be rated by a judge. Ratings are based on composition cleanness and clarity, creativity, performance, and accuracy. There is an award for first place in each category. Each students will receive their composition in a frame the following day at the Spring recital.
Annual Spring Recital
On the third Sunday of May we have our Spring Recital. Locations vary depending on availability. Awards and certificates are given out by our piano instructors and students play beautifully. From Bach to Beethoven to Disney, come enjoy and relax to our students' music!
